Before every flight, you ask yourself the same question: how big and how heavy can my carry-on luggage be? And what if I also want to bring my handbag or camera on board?
Unfortunately, there is no general answer to these questions, as most airlines have their own dimensions and weights for permitted carry-on luggage.
However, it is worth adhering to these restrictions, as compliance with dimensions is often strictly controlled nowadays. Especially the so-called budget airlines tend to meticulously check dimensions, and if the requirements are not met, the baggage item often has to be checked in for an additional fee, which can result in high extra costs.
But not only do the dimensions and weight specifications vary from airline to airline, they can also change depending on the ticket fare or airport and country. So you should check with the respective airline beforehand.
What is free for you with every airline is the choice of your carry-on luggage. You can freely choose between a small suitcase, backpack, trolley, or bag.
Most airlines generally only allow one carry-on item in Economy Class, while in Business Class it is usually two. But what if, as already mentioned, I want to bring my handbag or camera on board in addition?
Most airlines allow an additional personal item. In general, however, this should be considerably smaller than regular carry-on luggage. Examples of personal items include: a laptop, walking aids, a coat or jacket, a handbag, a small camera, an umbrella, reading material, etc.
For accompanying infants (under 2 years old), you are often allowed to bring another item on board, such as a baby carrier, a child car seat, or a foldable buggy.
